What We Do

Educate, Employ, and Empower

We believe in a holistic approach to supporting the Deaf in the Philippines. Our programs focus on three core areas—education, empowerment, and employment—ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to live a fulfilling and independent life.

Educate

For many families, having a Deaf child means living in isolation, not knowing that their child can attend school or learn a language. IDEA actively seeks out Deaf children in Bohol and Leyte, inviting them to be part of our program. These children quickly become part of a family of 50 brothers and sisters they can communicate with, breaking the silence and isolation they have experienced.

Through IDEA, our Deaf students receive a K-12 education via sign language, giving them the foundation they need to succeed in life. Students live on campus under the care of loving dorm parents, and visit their families on some weekends. We’re proud of our private 7-12 school Bohol Deaf Academy where students build upon academic skills with vocational skills.

Employ

For Deaf young adults completing their education, job opportunities are critical. Unfortunately, few businesses are willing to hire the Deaf. To address this, IDEA has established several businesses that offer meaningful employment to our graduates.
Any profits from these ventures go back into expanding job opportunities for other Deaf and funding educational needs of Deaf students.

Empower

Beyond academics, IDEA exists to provide holistic support to thrive in all areas of life.

Physical Well-Being: Nurses provide medical care and ensure nutritional needs are met. Dorm parents offer daily care and meals, ensuring students’ health and well-being.

Emotional Well-Being: Social workers maintain strong connections with students’ families, providing counseling and emotional support. This helps students feel secure and supported as they navigate the challenges of life.

Spiritual Well-Being: Outreach programs offer students opportunities for spiritual growth, including Bible studies, signed Church services, and community activities that share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Social Well-Being: Many students arrive with no formal language or social skills. IDEA helps them develop communication and socialization through structured learning, peer mentoring, and dorm life. Students build lasting friendships and learn vital skills like teamwork, responsibility, and etiquette.
