L is for Light: Christmas Gifts and Deaf Festival
In the Philippines, Christmas celebrations start in September. For IDEA, this means decorations are going up at campuses, special performances and dances are being practiced, and excitement is building!
In December, IDEA will go Christmas shopping. The students carry wish lists they wrote with their teachers. Older students choose for themselves within their budget, and younger students are shopped for by their teachers.
The lists are often filled with items like a new pair of shoes, a polo shirt for job training, and school supplies.
Students shared what this meant to them on last year’s shopping day:
“I cried the time I received my baggy pants.” (James)
“Thank you to my dear sponsor, thank you for the money that I used to buy my dream dress.” (Precious)
The L in LOVE is Light! Christmas time is filled with the light of Christ. This pillar will fund gifts and parties, as well as our January Deaf Festival.
This weekend-long festival brings together hundreds of students and graduates. It is a time of celebration through games, fellowship, worship, performances, and meals.
