With a pile of rubble in the background and workmen hammering all about the business of running a city still goes on.
All the salvageable desks, filing cabinets and books of records were being used in these temporary tent offices so that business can go on. The City Hall at the center of Sagbayan was near the epicenter of the quake and the building was condemned.
Ducking down to enter the four foot tall entrance to one of the row of tents we slowly made our way back to the Mayor’s office.
We were recently graced with an unexpected gift from the Major League Baseball Players Association. They donated funds to build 50 Core Houses and repair our damaged Special Education classrooms.
In order to help those most in need we asked the Mayor of Sagbayan if they would be willing to donate land for us to build the 50 houses in one location so we can create a sub-division. Part of the requiremenets were that each new homeowner be given title to the land and house they are given. The beneficiaries will be those families currently living in tent cities that had to leave their homes because the land was deemed unsafe to return to.
As with any requests of government, especially when asking for free land, there is plenty of red tape to get through. Please be in prayer with us as we proceed on this exciting adventure to change the lives of 50 families!
