For so long, it has only been an ambitious dream and prayer for the Leyte Island Association for the Deaf (LIAD), IDEA’s spin-off project on the island of Leyte, Philippines, to have its own multi-purpose covered court that will serve our supported elementary and high school deaf students.
Many thanks to our generous donors and friends; this prayer has been answered. The Dennis Drake Multipurpose Covered Court was constructed in Maasin City, Leyte, and can be utilized as an open classroom, a workshop area for vocational classes, a sports venue, and an activity center for LIAD programs and Maasin City SPED Center’s school activities.
This is dedicated to IDEA and LIAD founder, Dennis Drake, in honor of his legacy through his uttermost love and care for the deaf community. On April 26th, 2024, a Thanksgiving and turnover ceremony for the newly completed covered court was held, with our deaf students showcasing their talents and skills. Sandi, an IDEA US Board Member, and Jim, one of IDEA’s supporters, were also present to celebrate LIAD’s significant achievement.
All glory and thanks to the Almighty for this amazing blessing!
