Something we have prayed toward for years is happening.
Deaf leaders trained through Tip Tip Deaf Church are now teaching a Bible study at Bohol Deaf Academy themselves. Prior to this, the Bible study would have been canceled due to a lack of a sign language interpreter. Now it happens every week, taught by Deaf believers, ministering to the students in their own language. Trained upperclass students then visit elementary schools twice a month to teach younger Deaf children about Jesus. One student, Perlito, put it this way:
“In my younger years I did not know about Jesus. When I arrived at Bohol Deaf Academy I learned more about Him & how Jesus loves me. My faith grows as I learn in my lessons in Christian Living Class and Bible Study.”
Globally, only about 2% of Deaf people know Jesus. Our students can be part of how that changes. Who knows how far this will reach in only a few years as IDEA students and graduates share with the other people in their lives?
