Who We Are
Help us Educate, Empower, and Employ the Deaf in the Philippines
IDEA empowers Deaf individuals in the Philippines by providing education, vocational training, and employment opportunities, breaking the cycle of isolation and poverty.
Why IDEA
Only a small percent of Deaf children have access to signed education in the Philippines, as most are either unaware that education is possible for them or unable to afford it.
80% of Deaf Filipinos are unemployed due to widespread discrimination and the stigma surrounding disability.
IDEA exists to create brighter futures. We believe every person is made in the image of God.
We envision a society where the Deaf in the Philippines are empowered to live with dignity, equality, and self-reliance. By providing specialized education, vocational training, and employment opportunities, IDEA helps Deaf individuals gain independence and thrive.
How IDEA is Funded
Your sponsorship gives a Deaf child access to education and a brighter future. General donations from individuals, foundations, and churches sustain our programs, while IDEA-run businesses provide jobs and vocational training, and proceeds go back to expand our work.
Where IDEA Serves
IDEA’s work is focused on Central Visayas of the Philippines.
This region is home to thousands of Deaf children and adults who benefit from our education and employment programs.
Our History
Before IDEA, Deaf individuals in Bohol lived in isolation, with no access to sign language or education. God used Dennis Drake in 1985 to found IDEA and introduce Deaf education and vocational training. Today, IDEA runs 8 schools and 8 businesses, helping over a thousand Deaf individuals achieve independence.
