Christmas is in the air!
When December came around, our deaf students began writing their Christmas wish lists with great expectation. Just like most children, the fun of Christmas is gifts. They have good reason for their excitement because IDEA makes sure their students receive a Christmas present each year.
IDEA makes a shopping trip for all our deaf students each Christmas season. On the 8th and 9th of December, our elementary teachers and IDEA staff took their students’ wish lists to the biggest mall in the city to find gifts and get things they would need. At the same time, the high school students of Bohol Deaf Academy (BDA) shopped for their own lists, guided by their teachers. The students’ eyes were filled with joy and excitement as they ventured through the mall. The students picked out things like dresses, shoes, pants, shirts, bags, and even toiletries.
“How lucky these deaf kids are. They already have early gifts,” said one sales lady who was assisting the high school students.
These gifts are all thanks to the donors and sponsors who allow us to share the true meaning of Christmas. For many of our deaf kids, this is the only gift they’ll receive this season. They are surely feeling happy and blessed to receive these gifts. Many students can’t wait until next week when they get the chance to wear their new clothes to their Christmas party!
