Vocational Training Takes on a New Look

Through donations from our Christmas Catalog and other generous donors we have been able to purchase much needed tools and equipment for our Vocational Training Classes.  With our shop floor recently completed and cabinets built for each section we can now offer training to our Bohol Deaf Academy High School Students. Through the help of our skilled workers and BDA teachers each student is able to learn how to use the tools needed to do the job and actually work on projects that need done for IDEA.
The first part of the training consists of teaching them the vocabulary needed to do the job then the instructor goes over the basics of how to use the tools, how to clean and care for them and the names of each. At the BDA Campus classes are being conducted in Baking with instructors from IDEA’s Garden Cafe.  A Food and Beverage class teaching our students how to work as waiters and waitresses and how to prepare venues for events.  We also offer Fly Tying instruction so they can prepare for jobs at IDEA’s Fishing Products Division. Another fun class is our Performing Arts Class.  These students tried out for the class and will be performing at local malls and resorts performing dances and dramas.  A great way to show the public what the deaf are capable of.
